The Voluntarios de León (Leon Volunteers) had fought at many battles and other actions during the Peninsula War such as the battle of Vitoria, the battle of Medina de Rioseco and also the sieges of Astorga and Zaragoza.

In 1808 the Leon Volunteers had five infantry regiments and two light infantry battalions, one of which was the "Ilustres Escolares" You can see the uniforms of the regiments down below.
