As per John Elting, Jäeger units wore the 1798 regulations leather helmet untl 1814. The brass "F II" cypher was mounted on the front of the helmet as Light infanrty units has no plate on the helmet. Richard Knötel depicts the Jäeger's helmet with brass-edged front peak..The Jäeger Battalion "Le Loup" is presented by Knötel with brass side reinforcements.

After 1804 the cypher was changed from "F II" to "F I" when Frances II redesignated himself Emperor Francis I of Austria.
