1st Swiss regiment grenadier by Marbot CLICK TO ENLARGE |
The uniform of the 1st Swiss Regiment is similar to the one of the 3ème Demi-brigade Helvetique, from which this unit came from.
The red coat had yellow facing color on lapels and cuffs. The collar was red but the existing portraits evidence a variation in color which are sometimes yellow and it is how it is commonly found in drawings.
Pockets were vertical although examples of coats with horizontal pockets are also found.
Cuff flaps were red with three buttons and also some portraits show them yellow as it is depicted in the Marbot series.

Sky blue trim was worn around the lapels, cuffs, cuff flaps, collar, shoulder straps, pockets and turnbacks which were white.
Buttons were rounded with the regiment number on it.
Also shoulder straps had color variations as seen in Weiland’s plate where are shown yellow. Also worth noting that cuff flaps are depicted here with four buttons and piping is white instead of light blue.
The red shaped patch shown on the turnbacks was copied from Rigo Plates.
