5th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment - Duryee's Zouaves

 The 5th  New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment was also known by it's commander as the "Duryee's Zouaves".

 

It mustered service on May 9th 1861 for two years and marched to the battlfront on May 23rd.

 

 

Made of blue silk, the regimental color includes a painted arms of the United States with 34 gold stars in the typical two arc pattern of 21 over 13. The lower riband, with raised center section, is painted with the regiment’s identification, “FIFTH ZOUAVE REGT. N.Y.V.” and it meassures 75” hoist x 82” fly.
