CSA Columbus Type1 Case

The Columbus Depot jackets are often referred to as the "Orphan Brigade Jacket" and are easy to identyfy by the blue wool collar and cuffs.

The so called "Type I" was issued in grey wool jean or in butternut tan. The closing at the front was rounded and it had a pointed back. Six button front straight closure was the standard but early war pieces had only five buttons as it is evidenced in the jacket of Private Elijah Crow Woodward's jacket who served with Company C, 9th Kentucky Infantry which is exhibit at the Kentucky Military History Museum, Frankfort, Kentucky .
